First Emrata, Now Dakota Johnson Is Taking This Ukrainian Label to the Red Carpet

Dakota Johnson is known for her wide-ranging fashion tastes, often shifting between whimsical statements (she is a muse to Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, after all) and quietly elegant moments at the drop of a hat. Last night at the Marrakech Film Festival, Johnson stepped out in a slinky cream scoop neck slip dress by the Ukraine-based label Bevza that spoke to her more minimalist tendencies. The body-skimming piece was a a sexy update on the ’90s T-shirt dress from the line’s Spring 2019 collection. The Suspiria actress, who was also a jury member at the festival, paired the look with simple gold heeled sandals, adding a twist of throwback flair.

While the post-Soviet, streetwise aesthetic of fashion labels such as Gosha Rubchinskiy has dominated the conversation around emerging Eastern European design up until now, designers in the region have been making an impact in a more elevated sphere, too. Case in point: Last year, Rihanna wore a dress by Ukrainian designer Marianna Senchina to her Fenty Beauty launch in Madrid, Spain. Known for its understated dresses, sharp square-toe footwear, and animal-print puffers, Bevza is the latest brand to be getting international attention.
